With Paris Fashion Week underway, our Trunk Show has officially begun! Alongside other designers, the Danish duo of brothers Mads and Mikkel Kornerup will be presenting their beautiful collection on 4 and 5 March in our boutique at 316 Rue Saint-Honoré.
How did you come up with the idea of combining Oriental art and Scandinavian design?
The iconic Shamballa Jewels beaded bracelet is inspired by the Himalayan mala which is used as a tool to help the mind focus on meditation or to count mantras in sets of 108 repetitions.
Our mission is to convey some important ancient Asian philosophies to our Western world where we seek for meaning more than ever, and to do this we have found inspiration in traditional mala and added some Nordic aesthetics.
What are the values of Shamballa ?
Our values are Love, Joy, Wisdom and Compassion. These are the things we aim to remind ourselves and our community about.
Love: Be aware that everything comes from you and know that you can make a difference.
Joy: Be aware that Joy is not a thing, it is within us.
Compassion: When you are generous, you make good impressions on your mind and then you will begin to experience the world in a more pleasant way. You can be generous by giving gifts, but also by taking the time to talk to people, listen to them and help them.
Wisdom: There will be frustrations in life. The question is not: How can I escape? Rather: How can I use this as something positive?
What do you want you jewelry to evoke when people wear it?
We hope that the jewelry can serve as a reminder of what is important to you - as a kind of reminder of the past with a compass for the future. We also hope they remind you to live a life full of love, joy, wisdom and compassion.
How has your job affected you relationship as brothers?
We have always been a close family and have a strong bond with each other. Running a business together for so many years is not an easy task, as we are very different, this has affected us a bit over the years and cost us a few cuts along the way. However, in many ways our differences are also our strength.
What do you do to nourish yourself creatively outside of your job?
We have different ways of nourishing ourselves. Meditation, traveling, open-mindedness and meeting interesting people are proper sources of inspiration.
