Our last guest, presenting her colorful collection at the Trunk Show we are holding in honor of Paris Fashion Week, is French designer Fanny Blanchelande. Come meet her on the 4th and 5th of March in our 316 Rue Saint-Honoré boutique!
Why did you decide to reinvent the classic Brazilian bracelet?
The reason is very simple, jewelry is something that sticks to our skin, makes us more beautiful, gives us energy and even confidence.
Having lived in Monaco all my life, I was nevertheless immersed in Brazilian culture. Because of my mother's origins, I often spent my holidays with my family in Brazil.
For my first collection, after more than 20 years of unique pieces, I wanted to honor a piece of jewelry that I have always made and worn, the Brazilian bracelet. It is therefore quite natural that I wanted, from my first collection, to give priority to an ultra precious version of the cotton bracelet that accompanied me throughout my youth.
Has your way of imagining and creating changed because of the new circumstances due to the pandemic?
The last two years have been a revolution in the way we live, work, socialise and consume. This has clearly had an impact on creation. For me, this period has convinced me more than ever that everyone must refocus on what is the essence of their personality and never waste it.
A cheerful and colorful life, shared with my family and friends, is my priority. Therefore, my work has naturally focused on colorful collections, in the air of time with their QR codes, to be worn without moderation, on all occasions and with finesse.
Which stone suits you best?
My passion for stones dates back to my early childhood. This fascination when I passed in front of a jewelry shop window is long-standing. When I graduated from high school, I immediately went to study gemology in order to refine my knowledge on the subject, and I discovered there the marvelous universe of precious stones. I can't stop diving inside gems through the microscope. When studying the inside of a stone one finds life, growth, energy. Each stone has its identity, its history, its DNA and therefore its interest.
It is very difficult for me to make a choice, but sapphire is undoubtedly the stone that could satisfy all my moods. The color spectrum of sapphire being complete, from white to black and all the colors of the rainbow, the shades and intensities they can have are so subtle and varied that they have allowed me to create these color gradations which I believe are the attraction of my Copacabana collection.
What's your current favorite?
The current trend of bringing back colorful jewelry, voluminous shapes and daring creations confirms me on my creative path as it is everything I love.
The desire to innovate in materials, development and manufacturing techniques, as well as my clients' taste for new codes in jewelry, pushes me to be very interested in the "new" metals such as titanium or aluminium. In addition to the multitude of very attractive metal colors, their lightness and resistance allow my most extravagant creations to express themselves. To all this, the union of precious stones and a touch of technology will bring you closer to my next collections. To be continued....
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
Turning a passion into a profession is a dream that many children have. I did everything I could to make my dream come true. I have the privilege of being able to combine the useful with the pleasant on a daily basis. My collections are a commercial success, but my personal success is to be able to weave strong enough, pleasant enough, even friendly enough working relationships to be able to maintain the level of motivation and pleasure that I feel every day when working with my teams and my clients, allowing me to continue to find the inspiration necessary to reinvent myself with each new collection. I also have the luxury of being able to say with pride that my job is also my passion.
